    TASTE OF CHICAGO
    2009 / 06 / 29
    08:35 pm

We gave the Taste one of our best performances to date and the response was beyond our expectations; to the many of you who heard our music for the first time, thank you for listening. As always, we want to give a heartfelt thanks to our family and friends who came out - braving the traffic, crowds, and heat to support us. If we gave you a flyer, prior to our performance, and your curiosity led you to our stage, we'd love to hear what you thought.

Thank you Chicago! We are your own.

MEGA SHOWS COMING UP AND NEW RECORD PROGRESS
    2009 / 06 / 17
    10:33 pm

We've got some massive performances in the next few weeks. On June 28th, we'll be taking the Best Buy stage at the Taste of Chicago promptly at 3:30pm. Then, on July 4th, we'll be at Summerfest, sharing the U.S. Cellular Connection stage with Dear and the Headlights, Anberlin, and others; we play at 5:30pm.

A mere few hours after we show Milwaukee 'no mercy', we'll be heading a few stages over to watch The Fray; If their set doesn't go too late, we fully intend to get back in time with Huey Lewis and the News; 1.21 Gigawatts!

We've written 2 to 5 (depending on who you talk to) very good new songs in the last month - intended for the new record that we're planning to start recording in the not-too-distant future. It's a bit early to say when we'll enter the studio, let alone when it will be released. We'll keep the updates coming.

Does anyone want to sell us a like-new trailer for not a lot of money?

WE ARE MAKING A NEW RECORD
    2009 / 06 / 01
    9:05 pm

We are very, very pleased to announce that we have started work on a new album. We've been writing loads of new songs and recording demos on our computers - with the intent of releasing a brand new ep in late 2009 to early 2010. What's more, we plan on a limited-run release on Vinyl to hear URBANITES in all of our analog goodness. The sound so far is very upbeat with brilliant textures and some gorgeous melodies if we do say so...

Meanwhile, we'll be previewing these new songs, throughout the coming months, at our shows - so please, come out!

    PAISTE RHYMES WITH FEISTY
    2009 / 05 / 17
    07:00 am

Our drummer DJ is now endorsed by PAISTE (rhymes with feisty) - the fine Swiss company that makes his GIANT BEAT cymbals. Other artists under contract with Paiste include Larry Mullen Jr. of U2, Jason McGerr of Death Cab for Cutie, Nathan Followill of Kings of Leon, and Stewart Copeland of the Police. It’s an honor to be part of the Paiste family; we'd like to thank Wayne and the entire Paiste staff for supporting URBANITES and for making the best cymbals we've ever heard.

Our thanks to A Lull for performing so brilliantly, Dan and Sam for their auditory genius, Austin and Jesse for selling tickets with their looks, Taylor and Jessica for driving through hours of traffic to sell our merchandise, Nick and Tony from State and Madison for lending their vocal talents, Bryan Buchelt (in general), and our warmth / gratitude to Margo, Roxanne, and everyone at County Line Orchard – thank you for complementing such a beautiful evening.

    SXSW 2009
    2009 / 03 / 25
    11:05 pm

So, we had an EXTRAORDINARY experience at SXSW.

Our expedition to Austin, Texas marked our first performances outside of Chicagoland. We played three shows over two days at various venues downtown – all of which were very well received. In between our outings, we took in several shows and met several bands; Paper Route’s late night showcase at The Gibson Room was far and away one of the most inspiring things we’ve ever seen. What’s more, we got into the venue, free of charge, thanks to our new friend (and the coolest person we met all week) Nancy Drew. We also met this songwriter, who’s written one or two that we like.

Between the hours of 1:00 and 3:30 am on Saturday, we shot our first ever band photos with our new friend and photographic connoisseur,
Chris Mullins. Driving around, we happened upon an ultramodern and stylish building called The Monarch, a place where really, really wealthy / trendy Texans reside; the security guard at the desk, likely out of absolute boredom, let us shoot photos wherever we pleased and gave us free refreshments.

    Other road trip highlights included:

Our interview on 6th Street with Chris Payne from Q101
         Our discovery of Chick-Fil-A
         Bradley’s new belt buckle
Our encounter with this person, whom we later learned is quite famous
Driving home through a town called Cooter, Missouri

Our good friend Bryan Buchelt filmed the entire experience in high definition; you can view the motion picture here.
